| | CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRIES HELPING YOUTH IDENTIFY WITH WHAT THEY SHARE IN COMMON (cont'd) | | | Over the past several years we have been trying to rebuild this wonderful organization. After all, our youth is the future of the church. Think about that lonely boy from Philadelphia who is now your pastor. Last year Betsy Sajak and Paula Sperry with the help of other parents and advisors began to rebuild our CYM. This year, Shawn Hallman and Ray Schieber have agreed to be advisors. Because I really want our youth to become active in this great organization, I plan to be as supportive as I can be. My goal is that this organization will become whatever the youth of our parish want it be. I want it to be your organization. Adult advisors are only present to be support and give direction when necessary. I want |
to reestablish our Youth Mass once a month where our youth really do take on the role of all ministers. I want our teens to have great social times together but also learn ways to deepen their faith by having spiritual time together as service time to our parish. In other words, I want every Catholic teen at St. Theresa to be a well rounded Catholic youth!
My challenge to all high school students who are members of St. Theresa Church is to give CYM a try and bring a friend! You will have a wonderful opportunity to be able to form this ministry at its rebirth. My challenge to all parents of teens is to encourage them to spend more time with other Catholic youth. Encourage |
them to give it a try. I also need to hear from all young people. In September, my town hall meeting will be on the topic of education and formation which includes CYM. It is here, where you can voice your thoughts and opinions on CYM. I plan to write a letter in September to every high school student at St. Theresa and personally invite them to participate.
It will be my prayer that some if not all of our high school students will give CYM a try. It did wonders for me. The potential is there to do wonders for our youth today. All you have to do is give it a try. Father John

| | MINISTERS ARE NEEDED TRAINING WILL BE OFFERED | | | Every fall, I make a general call for more ministers. Our parish has always done a good job of getting parishioners to volunteer at the various Masses on the weekend. I always need more Altar Servers, Extraordinary Ministers (formally Eucharistic Ministers), Lectors, Commentators, Ushers and Choir members.
Imagine no commentators. I would have to get up before Mass began, read the theme and announcements, walk back out and then process in. I would get a lot of exercise. Just imagine what Mass would be like if we did not have any lectors to read. I would have to come over to read the readings and then proclaim the Gospel. I think that you would get tired of my voice. |
Imagine no servers. I would have to hold the book myself, set up the altar by myself, get the gifts by myself, go back to the credence table, wash my hands etc. I wonder how much longer Mass would be. Imagine no ushers. I would have to go up and down the isles collecting donations while singing the offertory song solo since there would be no choir members. Believe me, this is not American Idol. Imagine no extraordinary ministers. I would have to give communion to everyone in the Church. Talk about being late for dinner. I think you get my point. I need your assistance very much at Mass. Every ministry is vital and I need as many ministers as I can get. Pray about it, think about it and plan on attending one of the training sessions being held this fall. |
ALTAR SERVERS training for new servers will take place on the second Saturday of September, October and November.
LECTORS & COMMENTATORS training after all Masses for new lectors on September 11/12 & October 30/31
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS training after all Masses for ALL ministers on September 25/26 and October 23/24
Those wishing to sing in the choir or play piano/organ, contact Teresa Mazurek. Those wishing to usher, contact any usher at any Mass for instructions.
